BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Marshall senior Ashonti Warner's season came to a close in the quarterfinals of the 400 meter hurdles in the East Regional at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, held at Indiana University's Robert C. Haugh Complex.

Warner placed 18th overall out of the 24 runners. She finished with a time of 58.93 seconds.

"I hate to see the season end for both Ashonti and Mikah (Alleyne), but I want to congratulate them both for a fantastic year," Herd head coach Jeff Small said.

It was Warner's third trip to the NCAA East Preliminary Regionals in the 400 meter hurdles after qualifying in 2019 as a freshman and again in 2021. The 2020 outdoor season was cancelled due to COVID. The senior advanced to the quarterfinals in 2021 as well after finishing with a then personal-best, and school record 58.91.

Warner broke that record this season when she blazed a time of 58.04 during the Conference USA Championships, May 12-15. It was the 17th-fastest time in the nation and sent Warner to the East Regionals. In her run on Saturday in Bloomington, Warner finished seventh in her heat.

Alleyne, who ran on Thursday and did not qualify for the quarterfinals on Saturday, made her second trip to the East Regionals in the 400 meter hurdles after also going in 2021. Her time of 58.59 at the Outdoor Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tennessee, on April 29 was the 24th-fastest time in the country.
