HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall women's soccer team released its 2022 fall schedule on Friday for its first season in the Sun Belt Conference. The Herd opens the 2022 season with a four-match homestand.

The Thundering Herd will have nine home regular-season matches at Hoops Family Field. Marshall's schedule features seven opponents with double-digit wins in 2021, and two that won their respective conference championships and played in the NCAA tournament. The Herd's opponents collectively won 150 matches in 2021.

Season tickets go on sale July 1. Single match tickets, if available, will be released on Aug. 1. Season ticket purchases will include one ticket for each men's and women's match. More information can be found by clicking here on the Marshall women's soccer ticket page.

"We will be closing out a couple of series with some common opponents and then starting new series with others," said Herd head coach Michael Swan who enters his third season at the helm. "Being in a new conference and playing new opposition will be exciting and somewhat challenging given we haven't travelled to some of our opponents' places, but you can feel the excitement amongst the staff and players about playing in the Sun Belt.

"We had a good spring and we've added some great depth to our team. Last season we we're so young but the squad is 12 months older and wiser. When you add our transfers and incoming freshman to the mix, we won't disappoint. We are so excited to play in front of our home crowd this season! We've got some great balance with home and away and feel very good about what we have put to together with the 2022 schedule."

Marshall begins the year with two exhibition matches. The first is a home contest against Eastern Kentucky on Aug. 9, and then a final exhibition match on the road at Bellarmine on Aug. 14. EKU defeated Liberty in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Tournament before falling to No. 1 seed Lipscomb in the semifinal.

The Herd officially kicks off the regular season on Aug. 18 versus High Point. The Panthers won 10 matches a year ago and captured the Big South Tournament Championship with a 2-1 win over No. 1 seed Campbell. High Point advanced to the NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round to No. 1 seed Virginia.

Marshall then continues its season-opening home stretch against Akron (Aug. 21), Morehead State (Aug. 25) and finally against Ohio (Aug. 28). The Ohio Bobcats finished with 11 victories in 2021.

The Herd hits the road for its next three non-conference contests travelling to Liberty (Sept. 1), Radford (Sept. 4) and then Miami of Ohio (Sept. 11). Liberty and Radford both finished with double-digit wins last season. Radford fell to No. 1 seed Campbell in the Big South semifinals.

Marshall will open and close its inaugural season in the Sun Belt with two familiar foes in Southern Miss on Sept. 17 and then at Old Dominion on Oct. 27. The Golden Eagles and the Monarchs joined the Herd in the move away from Conference USA beginning with the fall 2022 schedule. Both squads played in the conference title match in 2021 with Old Dominion winning the championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament. The Monarchs lost to No. 1 seed Duke, 1-0, in the first round.

In between facing a couple of old opponents, Marshall will have eight other Sun Belt matches for 10 in all. The home contests along with Southern Miss will feature Appalachian State (Sept. 25), Georgia Southern (Oct. 6), James Madison (Oct. 14) and then finally versus Texas State (Oct. 23). The match against Southern Miss will also be Senior Night for the Herd with first touch at 7 p.m.

The other conference road matches for Marshall are at Arkansas State (Sept. 22), Louisiana Monroe (Oct. 1), Georgia State (Oct. 9), Coastal Carolina (Oct. 20) and then ending the regular season at Old Dominion.

The Sun Belt Conference Tournament is set for Oct. 31 – Nov. 6 from Foley, Ala.

Marshall returns its three leading scorers from the 2021 season in Kat Gonzalez (five goals, one assist), Meg Jarvis (five goals) and Morgan White (three goals, two assists). Gonzalez spent time again this spring with the Dominican Republic Women's National Team and scored a goal in international competition. Both of the Herd's goalkeepers from last year return as well in Mira Pastoft and Courtney McVicker. Pastoft logged over 1,100 minutes and had a 1.86 goals against average. McVicker played 360 minutes and recorded a .719 save percentage.
