Yosef Goal, Semmle Shutout Seals Mountain State Derby for No. 4 Herd Men’s Soccer

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The No. 4 Marshall University men's soccer team (5-1-1, 1-0-1 Sun Belt) shutout the West Virginia Mountaineers (2-5-1, 0-1-1 Sun Belt), 1-0, in the Mountain State Derby on Saturday night at Hoops Family Field in its Sun Belt Conference home opener. Redshirt senior Milo Yosef netted the game-winner in the 85th minute, and three key saves from graduate student goalkeeper Oliver Semmle helped the Herd to the victory in the front of the sellout crowd of 2,735 fans.
"We were creating chances and keeping it tight," Herd men's soccer coach Chris Grassie said. "They had that one great chance. We tried to increase the pressure in the second half and we felt like it (a goal) was going to come. We got those one-on-one moments and we have special players. I felt like that was the difference today."
After playing the first 84 minutes scoreless, Semmle made a crucial save in the 85th minute of the match. Shortly after the save Yosef took the ball down the right wing and beat WVU goalkeeper Jackson Lee to bring the sellout crowd to a roar. The goal was the German forward's fifth goal of the season, second game-winner.
"I dreamt of it (the goal) the night before. So it's good that it happened. I'm really happy about it," Yosef said about scoring the game-winning goal.
Semmle also made saves in the 26th and 79th minutes in his second shutout of the season.
Senior winger Alexander Adjetey nearly tallied a goal inside the right post, but Lee was there for the save in the 81st minute.
