COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Marshall University Tennis team finished action at the Gamecock Invitational on Sunday in Columbia, South Carolina.
The final day of action was highlighted by a 6-3, 6-3 straight-set win by Johanna Strom over No. 39 Ozlem Uslu of Virginia Tech.
"Great weekend of competition," Herd tennis head coach John Mercer said. "JoJo definitely stood out winning all her matches at number one and today's doubles win with Emma and Dora against the number three singles player in the country from South Carolina is very impressive. Improvement continues and nice to see their hard work paying off."
Andjela Lopicic dropped just three games to Virginia Tech's Michael Hegarty in a 6-2, 6-1, victory as Doroteja Joksovic took down Laima Frosch in straight sets.
Joksovic also picked up a big doubles win with Emma Vanderheyden over South Carolina's Sarah Hammer and Misa Malkin, 6-3.
"It was awesome to see us hold our ground and pick up wins against top 25 and 50 power programs in South Carolina, SMU and Virginia Tech," Mercer added.
