No. 6 Herd Men’s Soccer Prepares for South Carolina Tuesday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The No. 6 Marshall University men's soccer team (13-2, 6-2 Sun Belt) readies for its final regular season game of the 2023 season against the South Carolina Gamecocks (5-7-3, 3-3-2 Sun Belt) on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

PRE-MATCH NOTES

The Herd earned a crucial three points in a 2-0 win at Old Dominion on Friday.
Braian Amaro opened the scoring in the 54th minute off a corner from Adam Aoumaich.
Matthew Bell then registered his 10th assist of the season as he found Alexander Adjetey who scored in the 79th minute.
With the shutout, Gabriel Perrotta brought his total to an SBC-best 7.5 as he made two saves in the win.
MU can clinch the second seed in the 2023 SBC Men's Soccer Tournament with a win or a draw on Tuesday and can win the conference regular season crown outright with a win and a UCF loss or draw to James Madison on Tuesday.
If Marshall gets to at least the two seed, The Herd would be guaranteed to host the first rounds of the conference tournament beginning on Sunday.
Bell is having quite the sophomore campaign as his 10th assist of the season tied him for the single-season program record, which was last done by Jamil Roberts in 2019, with the mark seeing him ranked third in the nation this season in assists. The Kingston, Jamaica, native leads the SBC in points (26) and assists (10) with his eight goals ranking third. Bell is averaging .71 assists per game, ranking him second in the nation.
Perrotta sits atop the conference with a .804 goals against average.
The Herd ranks second in Division I men's soccer in total goals (42) and total points (128) while sitting in third in goal differential (30), and total assists (44).

ABOUT THE GAMECOCKS

South Carolina is coming off a 4-3 win over Coastal Carolina on Friday.
The Gamecocks lead the conference with 6.33 per match while sitting in second with 4.13 saves per contest.
Adam Luckhurst ranks fifth in the SBC and leads the Gamecocks with six players.
