DAYTON, Ohio – Marshall's women's basketball team (2-3) dropped its contest at Wright State (4-2) Monday evening, 89-78. The Raiders shot 52.2 percent from the floor.
The Thundering Herd were led by Roshala Scott with 17 points. Mahogany Matthews notched a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, the third of her career. Aislynn Hayes also finished with 14, her second-consecutive double digit scoring performance.
The Herd came alive in the third quarter, scoring 27 points on 52 percent shooting. Marshall made three triples in the quarter following the halftime break, and collected 12 rebounds. Coach Kim Caldwell's team cut what was a 23-point deficit by 15 late.
"Another really strong second-half, but we cannot continue to keep putting ourselves in holes," Coach Caldwell said. "We got to figure out our start, we got to figure out how to play with a sense of urgency from the beginning of the game. We talked about it at length in the locker room so we just have to keep getting better and playing hard for four quarters."
In total, Marshall shot 47.5 percent in the second half (19-of-40) and forced seven turnovers after halftime.
For the game, MU did win the rebounding margin, 44-39 and scored 22 second chance points.
