Herd Tennis Falls at Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Marshall University tennis team (4-4) fell on the road 4-2 to the Illinois Fighting Illini (5-3) on Saturday afternoon.

"I want to thank Illinois for helping make this match work," Herd tennis head coach John Mercer said after their match with Illinois replaced a canceled contest with Michigan State. "Our prayers are with Michigan State University and their tennis team. We had great effort today. Doubles continues to be impressive and we're just down to a couple of points in singles. Proud of how they competed and continue to improve. Awesome win for Johanna defeating Yeah, the No. 72 ranked player in the country."

Freshman Johanna Strom continued her dominance in singles with a straight-sets win over No. 72 Ashley Yeah. Strom is 7-0 in singles this spring.

The Herd took the doubles point for the seventh straight match as Rieke Gillar/Gabrielle Clairotte won at number three doubles and Aisling McGrane/Sophia Hurrion took their contest at number two.
