Herd Tennis Drops Close Contest to Penn State

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University tennis team (3-1) fell in a narrow 4-3 decision to the Penn State Nittany Lions (3-3) on Saturday afternoon at the 7827 Tennis Center.

"College tennis nowadays, everyone is good," Herd tennis head coach John Mercer said. "We did a good job at first and second doubles. That was really impressive what we did there. Unfortunately, we just couldn't get three of the singles. It came down to a couple of points and just couldn't get enough of them. Give Penn State credit. They were competitive and I thought we did a good job ourselves. It was a good atmosphere and a competitive match."

The Herd took the doubles point with 6-3 victories from Johanna Strom/Emma Vanderheyden and Gabrielle Clairotte/Rieke Gillar on courts one and two, respectively.

Strom followed up with a straight-sets victory on court two, while Aisling McGrane took her contest in a three-set match on court five.
