McLaskey shoots 73 to be in top-20 after first round
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – Marshall's women's golfer Emily McLaskey continued her string of impressive rounds to start the spring on Monday, which led the Thundering Herd at Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate.
Marshall is currently in 13th of 17 teams in the tournament, which is being played at Caledonia Fish and Golf Club in Pawleys Island, S.C. The Thundering Herd is only six strokes out of the top-5 as action moves on to Tuesday's round.
"We started off slow those first few holes of the day, but then seemed to turn it around," Marshall women's golf coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "I saw some good things today and also some things we need to improve upon as well."
Emily McLaskey led the way for the Thundering Herd, shooting a 2-over 73 to continue her string of impressive rounds to start the spring season.
McLaskey's lone birdie of the day came on the par-3, 11th hole when she sank her second shot on the 150-yard hole to move into red numbers early. Later, she sustained the success with a string of eight pars that preceded her final of three bogeys on the day.
James Madison leads the event at 1-over par as a team. Marshall sits 19 strokes back from the Dukes, but only six strokes out of the top-5 with a wealth of teams just ahead of the Herd at 18-over.
Marshall will be paired with St. Thomas University and Gardner-Webb for second-round action, which starts at 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday.
