McLatchey shoots second straight 73 to move into top-15
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – Marshall's Emily McLatchey had a roller coaster of a day at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, but the Herd's leader fired her second straight 2-over 73 to move into a tie for 14th at Pawleys Island, South Carolina.
McLatchey, who started on the 10th hole, struggled early in her round, but battled back with three birdies and seven pars in a 10-hole stretch that put her in contention for a run in Wednesday's final round.
Currently, McLatchey is only six strokes out of the lead, which means a solid round on Wednesday could vault her into contention at tourney's end.
The sophomore's 73 topped a day in which Marshall got a consistent effort that led the team into the top-10 heading into the final day of action.
"I saw lots of good things from the team today," Marshall women's golf coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "We improved a bit and we know we need a better start (Wednesday) morning. Early bogeys have cost us this tournament."
Abbey Bull turned in a solid effort for the Thundering Herd, joining Makenna Rauch as golfers who had at least three birdies in their rounds on Tuesday. Rauch finished with a team-high four for the Herd.
Marshall hits the course for its final round, starting at 7:50 a.m. on Wednesday. The Thundering Herd will be paired with Evansville and Northern Colorado.
