Kochan, Potter lead Thundering Herd on Day One at LPGA International

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Marshall's women's golf team sits in 11th place after day one of the Sun Belt Women's Golf Championship at The Hills Course at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Marshall's Olivia Kochan led the Thundering Herd in the first round, shooting a 3-over 75 to tie for 29th overall. One shot back of Kochan is teammate Katie Potter, who shot a 4-over 76. Both players carded three birdies in their opening round on the 6,134-yard par-72 course.
Just behind Kochan and Potter is Emily McLatchey, who overcame a pair of double-bogeys in a three-hole stretch to get in at 5-over par. McLatchey led the team with 11 pars on the day. She also had a pair of birdies to her credit.
"We started off a little slow today but fought really hard to finish on a good note," Marshall women's golf coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "I'm really proud of the effort I saw from everyone. We are looking forward to hitting the course for Round 2 to see how we can improve our standing."
Texas State leads after shooting a 2-under as a team during the first day of action. The Bobcats were the only team to finish the day under par. Scores are taken from the top four golfers on a five-player team.
Marshall's contingent of golfers start their second round at 8:45 a.m. off of Hole No. 10 on Monday morning at Hills Course.

9:12 a.m.: Katie Potter, Marshall; Luisa Gibson, Coastal Carolina; Shani Brynard, App State
9:21 a.m.: Olivia Kochan, Marshall; Sara Sarrion, Coastal Carolina; Ekaterina Prokhorova, App State
