Herd Tennis Sweeps Hilltoppers

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Marshall University tennis team (14-7) swept its former Conference USA rival WKU Hilltoppers (15-10), 4-0, on Sunday afternoon in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

"Good effort by everyone today. They were a very focused group," Herd tennis head coach John Mercer said of his team after the victory.

The duo of Emma Vanderheyden and Johanna Strom picked up a win at number one doubles, 6-3, to start the day for Marshall. Aisling McGrane and Sophia Hurrion then clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 triumph at number two doubles to give MU a 1-0 lead.

The Herd carried its momentum into singles as Hurrion won at number five singles, 6-1, 6-1, to make it 2-0.

Doroteja Joksovic then captured a 6-4, 6-2, win at number three singles to make 3-0 Marshall.

Vanderheyden then sealed the match at number two singles with a straight-set victory (6-4, 6-3).
