JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Marshall track and field trio of Mikah Alleyne, Macie Majoy, and Tyra Thomas all had strong showings at the NCAA Championship East Preliminaries on Thursday.
Alleyne, the senior from Beckley, raced a 57.79 in the 400 hurdles, which advanced her to Saturday's quarterfinals, one step away from the NCAA Championship Finals in Austin, Texas next month.
The Sun Belt Champion and Marshall school record holder in the event, will be one of 24 to compete on Saturday evening. Alleyne will be in the second of three heats, with the top three in each heat plus the next three fastest times advancing to the National Championship Finals.
Majoy, a Marshall standout since 2018, finished tied for 23rd with a 3.97 meter vault in the Pole Vault. The top 12 qualified for the NCAA Championship Finals in the Pole Vault, ending Majoy's historic career for the Herd as the Indoor and Outdoor Female School Record holder.
"Making it to National Prelims my last year of college makes me reflect on how amazing my experience has been at Marshall," Majoy said. "There have been a lot of ups and downs these past five years but I wouldn't change any of it for the world. Five years ago if you would have asked me where I would be today, I would not have come close to guessing. I could not have achieved my goals academically and athletically without the support of my coaches, teammates, professors, friends, and family. I have met some of the most amazing people at Marshall and I have made connections that will last a lifetime. I am grateful for every single person who has pushed me, believed in me, and stuck with me, even in the hard times. It is surreal to get to this point and move onto the next chapter but I am more than blessed for how good Marshall has been to me and I will forever be one of the Herd!"
Thomas finished her season just fourteen-hundredths of a second within advancing to Saturday's final preliminary round. The sophomore raced a 13.45 and finished 31st. The Winter Haven, Florida native left her mark in 2023 as the school's Indoor 60 meter hurdle record holder.
