Strong final nine lifts Herd junior to two-stroke win
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall junior Katie Potter enjoyed a trip back home this week.
Potter went 1-under over her final nine holes to win the Michigan Women's Mid-Amateur by two strokes at the Saginaw Country Club in Saginaw, Michigan.
Consistency was key for Potter during the two-day event.
The South Lyon, Michigan, native shot 1-over 72 in both rounds to earn the title by two strokes over Olivia Stoll and Megha Vallabhaneni by two strokes.
Stoll, who was the day one leader, faltered on the front nine and fell one behind Vallabhaneni and even with Potter moving into the final nine holes.
Potter made the signature move of the back nine, notching three birdies in a four-hole stretch to pull ahead by one stroke over Vallabhaneni.
After bogeys for all three on the 15th hole, Potter excelled down the stretch with par on each to not allow for Stoll or Vallabhaneni to challenge en route to the title.
