Aly Harrell Named Softball Assistant Coach

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Aly Harrell has been named an assistant coach on Head Coach Morgan Zerkle's softball staff, as announced Wednesday.

"Aly was a stud player at Marshall who knows the ins and outs of our program and truly understands how special Marshall is," Zerkle said. "She will be a great asset to have as I am navigating coming back to the Herd. Her journey at Marshall and now playing professionally is a great example for our student athletes. She has already had a huge impact on the program and will now get to continue doing so."

Harrell served as a volunteer assistant in 2023 with Marshall softball, overseeing external operations while serving as the first base coach. The Gahanna, Ohio, native will continue to oversee external operations within the program as an assistant coach.

"I am blessed to have this opportunity to work with Coach Zerkle," Harrell said. "I can't wait to coach this group while building on the traditions of Herd softball and Marshall University."

A 2022 graduate of Marshall University, Harrell excelled on and off the diamond upon arriving in Huntington as a freshman in 2017. Harrell became the first student-athlete to win the senior CLASS award, while also winning the 2022 Warrior Award. Harrell was a four-time All-Conference and All-Region member. She played in 220 total games with 215 starts in her Thundering Herd career. She ended her career ranked third among active players in career walks, seventh in hit-by-pitches, tied for 15th home runs, 19th in total bases, 20th in slugging percentage, and 27th in RBI.
