Coach Keith Roberts announces the addition of three coaches to lead the program
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Track and Field Coach Keith Roberts announced the completion of his staff as head coach of the Thundering Herd on Monday.
Roberts announced the addition of assistant coaches Justin Clickett for Throws, Ryan McGuffin for Jumps/Multis/Pole Vault, and Tessa Roberts for Jumps and Sprints to the staff. The trio join Distance Coach Caleb Bowen and Sprints Coach Andrea Deem.
Clickett joins the Herd staff after having served in the same position at the University of Charleston since 2018. The Virginia Tech graduate coached 13 MEC Champions and seven NCAA National Qualifiers with the Golden Eagles. As an athlete, Clickett was a four-time All-American and a four-time ACC/Big East champion in shot put.
"I am very excited about the completion of our track & field staff," Coach Roberts said. "We have added Coach Clickett who will work with our throws group. Coach Clickett is a proven champion. As an athlete he had success at the highest level and he built a strong throws crew at his previous institution. His experiences will give our student-athletes an elite perspective. Like many of our coaches he understands the region and is dedicated to doing things The Marshall Way."
McGuffin returns to the Herd after serving as an assistant with the pole vault and jumps athletes in 2022-23. McGuffin directly worked with athletes including Sun Belt Conference Champion Macie Majoy, and SBC Runner-Up Dianna Goodman. McGuffin is a Huntington, West Virginia native.
"Coach McGuffin will work with our jumpers and multi-event athletes. Coach McGuffin is one of the best up-and-coming coaches and has experience in almost every event in track & field. Last year he coached a Sun Belt Champion. He is also a Huntingtonian, which will give him an edge in recruiting as well as in assisting our community service initiatives."
Coach Tessa Roberts joins the Herd from Eastern Illinois, where she coached a pair of NCAA West Preliminary qualifiers in 2022. She coached 37 All-Americans during her previous tenure as coach at Grand Valley State University. Roberts was a MAC Champion as an athlete for Kent State University.
"Coach Tessa will be an invaluable member of the staff. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge and has coached at every level. Her leadership has helped produce numerous All-Americans and conference championships. Her conceptual, technical and people skills will help lead our program."
"These additions to the staff will make us a well-rounded track and field program. Coach Bowen, our Head Cross Country Coach, will continue coaching the cross country team and distance group. Coach Deem remains on staff as well, helping coach the sprints group and working as a recruiting coordinator. We are looking forward to getting the season started!"
Marshall track and field enters its second season in the Sun Belt Conference in 2023-24. The men's program will enter its second full season after returning last year following a 19-season hiatus.
