NEW ORLEANS – Sophomore Marshall men's soccer student-athlete Matthew Bell was named the first Sun Belt Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, as announced by the league office. Going back to last season, this is his second weekly honor awarded by the conference office.
The Kingston, Jamaica, native earned the honor for tallying the first hat trick of his career in a 4-0 season-opening win over Oakland on Thursday. Bell wasted little time getting the season started as he buried home a cross from Adam Aoumaich 1:33 into the match.
Bell followed with goals in the 15th and 64th minutes on a pair of assists by Alvaro-Garcia Pascual for the hat trick.
Bell leads the country in goals with four and points at eight after a one-goal and one-assist performance on Monday in a 5-0 win over Wright State.
The No. 11 Herd welcomes Xavier on Friday to Hoops Family Field to close out a three-game homestand at 7:15 p.m. Marshall currently leads Division I men's soccer in goal differential (9), points (27) and is tied for first at nine goals scored with Oral Roberts and No. 4 Duke.
