HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The 2023 Marshall University women's soccer team - less than two weeks out from its opening match against Morehead State on Aug. 17 - travels to the mountains of North Carolina for a four-day preseason camp. The camp will be highlighted with an exhibition match against Western Carolina on Saturday, Aug. 5 at noon from Cullowhee.

The 25-member squad formally arrived on campus last week with its MarshALLU Day media outing Friday. On Monday, the team went through opening day meetings before officially opening camp Tuesday.

Fourth-year head coach Michael Swan is pleased with the energy he has seen from the team so far in camp.

"We have had a great first few days as a group and you can feel the excitement amongst them," Coach Swan said. "We want to continue this in North Carolina and expect us to keep working hard on the field as well as bringing the group closer off of it."

The Herd enters its second season in the Sun Belt. In 2022, Marshall finished with nine conference points, defeating App State in the Sun Belt Tournament before falling to the no. 2 seed South Alabama in double overtime in the quarterfinals.
