Herd Volleyball Closes Action at Marshall Invitational

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University volleyball team (3-4) closed out the Marshall Invitational on Saturday at the Cam Henderson Center. Brynn Brown recorded a double-double in both contests with 19 assists and 17 kills against Akron to go with 31 assists and 12 digs against Coppin State.

The Herd fell 3-2 in both contests to the Zips (25-16, 18-25, 10-25, 25-19, 15-9) and the Eagles (21-25, 7-25, 25-18, 25-16, 15-9).

MU took the second (25-18) and third (25-10) sets, but couldn't overcome Zips in the five-set contest.

To go with Brown's double-double, Sarah Wadsworth led the way with a season-high 20 digs. Essence Clerkley had 12 kills and a .632 hitting percentage.

Marshall recorded a .429 hitting percentage in the second set and a .385 hitting percentage in the third.

Coppin State 3, Marshall 2
The Herd captured the first two sets 25-21 and 25-7, respectively, before falling to the Eagles in five sets.

Clerkley and Jazminn Parrish each reached double-digit kills in the match at 13 and 11, respectively. Clerkley also registered a .429 hitting percentage.

Brown's 31 assists as part of her double-double tied a season-high set at Bethune-Cookman last weekend.

Bria Samilton also matched Brown's dig total of 12 in the contest to tie for the team-lead.

UP NEXT
The Herd is back on the court Tuesday when it travels to Eastern Kentucky. Opening serve is set for 6 p.m.
