ATLANTA, Ga. – The Marshall University volleyball team (10-8, 2-2 Sun Belt) dropped it final matchup against Georgia State (4-11, 1-3 Sun Belt) in five sets (18-25, 25-13, 25-19, 21-25, 20-18) Friday afternoon in Atlanta, Georgia.

"Even though the fifth set didn't end in our favor, we fought hard and stayed physical until the end," Herd volleyball head coach Ari Aganus said after the match. "Georgia State played really well and stayed aggressive the whole match. Essence (Clerkley) and Lydia (Montague) had a great weekend and now we just have to have more pieces terminate the ball. I'm proud of the effort, but ready to learn and get better quickly for Troy."

Jazminn Parrish and Brynn Brown each finished with a double-double. Parrish had a match-high 19 kills and 11 digs as Brown finished with 41 assists and 14 digs. Peyton Neal led the team with 27 digs.

The Herd trailed during the first 15 points of the opening set. After a kill by Olivia Fogo gave Marshall a 9-8 lead, the visitor never looked back in the first set. MU ended the set on a 7-2 run to take the set 25-18. MU finished the set with a .270 hitting percentage.

The Panthers took the second and third sets from Marshall 25-13 and 25-19, respectively.

Despite the score being tied six times in the fourth, MU never trailed in the set. The Herd finished with a .447 hitting percentage in the frame and took four of the final six points to take it 25-21 on a Parrish kill.

The fifth set was a see-saw battle seeing the score tied 11 times and eight lead changes, but Georgia State took it 20-18 to take the match.
