BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Marshall University Swimming and Diving team concluded action on Friday on day one of a tri-meet against Buffalo/Duquesne and the UB Diving Invite. The Herd leads Buffalo 102-84 and leads Duquesne 115-71.
"I thought it was a strong showing tonight," Herd swimming and diving head coach Ian Walsh said. "Winning six of the 10 events competed this evening was big for us. Our relays performed well, but we need to work on our exchanges as I thought we left the door open there. Divers competed well and we have our two best disciplines (1m and Team Diving) slated for tomorrow."
MU picked up individual wins by Molly Warner in the 200 Freestyle (1:52.67), Audrey West in the 100 Breaststroke (1:04.32), Eszter Laban in the 500 Freestyle (5:04.07) and Paige Banton in the 100 Individual Medley (59.12).
In the relays, Marshall's team of Mia McBride, Banton, Madeline Hart and West took the 200 Medley Relay (1:45.00) as the team of Hart, Claire Kenney, Parker Lynch and Klava Katayama won the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:35.70).
"Molly, Paige, Audrey and Eszter had some quality races that resulted in individual wins," Walsh said. "Audrey has turned a corner in her training and it's been fun to see things coming together during competition. Eszter and Molly made some great race adjustments from last week. Paige and Audrey getting 1-2 in the 100 IM was a big momentum shift for us leading into the final two events."
In the 3 Meter Dive, Grace Kelsheimer took fifth in the tri-meet and 17th in the UB Diving Invite with a score of 242.70 as Alaina Laster finished seventh in the tri-meet and 22nd at the invite with a score of 221.25.
"Tomorrow should be a good test to see how our women respond," Walsh said. "Some of our best events on paper will be contested. Proud of this team and excited for the challenge ahead in the morning."
