CONWAY, S.C. – The Marshall women's basketball team has won five in a row to open Sun Belt Conference play. The Herd (11-5, 5-0 SBC) did so Saturday with a 72-60 road win over Coastal Carolina (7-10, 1-3 SBC).
The Herd is 5-0 in conference play for the first time since the 2005-06 season. It is the fourth time in program history the Marshall women have won their first five to open a conference schedule.
"Happy to get out of here with a win," Coach Caldwell said. "Once again, I didn't really love it, but we got the win. We will hit the road, try to get back to work on Monday and we have a really big week coming up at home. We will play this team very quickly again when they will be at our place Saturday."
The Herd heated up early, making seven three-pointers in the opening 10 minutes. MU finished the game with 12 overall. Aislynn Hayes made a career-high six triples, finishing with 23 points. Breanna Campbell was the only other player in double figures with 12.
While Abby Beeman finished with six points, she also collected 10 rebounds while dishing eight assists.
"Props to [Abby], she had 10 rebounds and eight assists," Coach Caldwell said. "She found a way to make us better even when the ball wasn't going in the hole and other people stepped up as well so that was big. We will make a better adjustment for the next time we play [Coastal Carolina]."

Marshall forced four of its 20 turnovers in the fourth to seal the 12-point road victory.
