Herd Tennis Sweeps Longwood, Falls to No. 12 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Marshall University Tennis team (1-1) split its opening duels of the season sweeping Longwood (0-2), 7-0, and falling to No. 12 Virgnia (3-0), 7-0, on Saturday in Charlottesville, Virginia.

"It was two great matches today," Herd tennis head coach John Mercer said. "It was great to get the season rolling."

Against Longwood, Marshall dominated doubles dropping just four games across the three matches sweeping all three contests.

In singles, Sophia Hurrion, Doroteja Joksovic, Rieke Gillar and Gabrielle Clairotte all won in straight sets against the Lancers.

Emily Schut and Emma Vanderheyden each took their singles contest in three sets with Vanderheyden rebounding in her match after falling in the first set.

The Herd couldn't get much going against the Cavaliers to open the day. In singles, MU faced three top-90 singles players.
