Herd Women’s Basketball Opens 2024 With Conference Homestand

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Following a road win to open the 2023-24 conference schedule, Coach Kim Caldwell's Thundering Herd turns the page to a new calendar year with a pair of games from the Cam Henderson Center.
Marshall's women's basketball team hosts South Alabama Thursday evening at 6 p.m. before matching up with Arkansas State at 1 p.m. Saturday.

PRE-GAME NOTES
- Marshall opened its conference season with an 87-72 win over Southern Miss on the road. The Herd made 13 three-pointers with sophomore Sydni Scott making five triples.
- Marshall leads the conference in a number of statistical categories, including Bench Points Per Game. The team's 29.0 points from the bench is 41st nationally.
- Coach Kim Caldwell has collected 198 wins for her career. The first-year head coach met with the media ahead of this weekend's games.

ABOUT SOUTH ALABAMA
- South Alabama is 7-6 overall, dropping its conference opener to Old Dominion at home, 62-56. The Jaguars were picked 14th in the Sun Belt Conference Preseason Poll.
- First-year Head Coach Yolisha Jackson's team is led by Preseason All-Conference member Kelsey Thompson. The sophomore guard from Mobile leads the team with 11.7 PPG.
- The Herd and Jaguars met for the first time in program history last season, with Marshall winning 63-61 in overtime.
ABOUT ARKANSAS STATE
- The Red Wolves are 7-4, winning its conference opener at home over Coastal Carolina, 81-73. Arkansas State was picked eighth in the SBC Preseason Poll (Marshall picked ninth).
- Coach A-State is Destinee Rogers. The Herd will welcome back former MU assistant coach Rudy Evans, who serves on Coach Rogers's staff.
- Preseason First Team member Izzy Higginbottom leads the way for A-State. The junior guard is averaging 22.9 PPG, a number which ranks ninth nationally.
