HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall's win streak progressed to 10 games in the Herd's 81-69 win over App State in front of 2,095 loud fans at the Cam Henderson Center Wednesday evening.
The win moves Coach Kim Caldwell's team to 16-5 overall, and 10-0 in Sun Belt Conference play. App State drops to 10-11, and 4-6 in league action.
After a tight first half which saw eight lead changes, the Herd raced out to a 23-9 advantage in the 3rd quarter, to the delight of the over 2,000 in attendance.
"The crowd was amazing," Coach Caldwell said. "Not only was it packed in here but it was loud in here so it was a really engaged crowd. Honestly in a game like tonight where we are not really playing well and things really aren't going our way, it means so much. It makes us play harder, it makes us want it a little bit more, I think it is worth the 10-12 points that we won by, so that part is huge."
Sparking the post-halftime charge were Aislynn Hayes and Sydni Scott, who combined with Meredith Maier to convert on three-consecutive shots from outside to provide the Herd a double-digit lead.
Hayes led all scorers with 24 points. She has finished with double-figures scoring in the team's last eight games. Scott, Breanna Campbell, and Abby Beeman also finished with 14, 13, and 12 respectively.
