HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Volleyball team (9-10, 0-6 SBC) fought hard against James Madison (8-8, 3-3 SBC) on Saturday in the Cam Henderson Center, but fell in the team's weekend finale.
The Dukes won the match in four sets, 25-21, 25-21, 21-25, 25-13.
"I'm really proud of our bounce back and first ball contact," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Ari Aganus said. "We had some adversity and as a team handled it really well. While our defense was better today, our offense struggled to put the ball away. We appreciate our fans so much and look forward to getting on the road next week and get right back at it!"
Brynn Brown recorded her second double-double of the weekend with 41 assists and 12 digs. MU finished the match with a pair in double-digit kills with Beatrice Ciccarelli at 13 and Teagan Melton with 10.
Olivia Fogo finished with a match-high 27 digs as Kenzie Schoenhardt added 19.
Despite falling 25-21 in each of the first two sets, The Herd's offense attacked well. Marshall finished with a .250 hitting percentage in the first and .283 in the second, committing just seven attacking errors in the first sets.
The third set was a power struggle between the two sides early on. Through the first 30 points, MU and JMU were tied 15-15 as there were three lead changes and the scoreboard tied seven times. However, Marshall went on a 3-0 run to take an 18-15 advantage, concluded on a kill by Brown. The Herd finished off the set and took it from the Dukes, 25-21.
James Madison took the match by winning the fourth set, 25-13.
