Herd Tennis Closes Big Second Day at ITA Atlantic Regional

Hurrion, Vanderheyden advance in singles; McGrane, Van Hout in doubles

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Marshall Tennis Team saw a pair advance in singles and a duo in doubles to the Round of 32 on day two of the ITA Atlantic Regional on Friday.

"Nice wins for everyone today as we continue to build for January," Herd Tennis Head Coach John Mercer said.

In singles, Emma Vanderheyden started the day against Vaida Matuseviciute of George Washington. Vanderheyden took her opening set 7-5, but fell 6-3 in the second as it went to a third set. The senior stepped up and won her match with a 6-3 triumph in the final frame.

Sophia Hurrion followed on the singles courts. Hurrion took down George Washington's Patricia Rogozoveca in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, to advance to the Round of 32.

In doubles action, Aisling McGrane with partner Nel Van Hout gutted out a tiebreak victory, 8-7 (5), over ODU's Mya Byrd and Allison Isaacs to advance to the Round of 32.

Hurrion and Vanderheyden withdrew from their doubles match due to injury.
