Marshall Tennis Finishes Action on Day 3 at ITA Atlantic Regional

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Marshall Tennis Team closed out a big third day on Saturday at the ITA Atlantic Regional.

Emma Vanderheyden reached the Round of 16 in singles with the duo Aisling McGrane and Nel Van Hout reaching the same round in doubles.

"Great comeback for Ash and Nel," Herd Tennis Head Coach John Mercer said, "Down 5-1 comeback to win. Good to see them competing to the end."

McGrane and Van Hout were closing out the day for The Herd in doubles as they faced ninth-seeded pairing Michaela Kucharova and Maja Dodik of WVU. The pair from Marshall found themselves down 5-1, but fought back to force a tiebreak.

McGrane and Van Hout gutted out the tiebreak to win the match 8-7 (5) against the in-state rivals and advanced to the Round of 16.

In singles, Vanderheyden fell in her first set, 6-1, against Sun Belt Conference opponent Allison Isaacs of ODU. However, Vanderheyden captured the next two sets, 6-4, 6-3, to advance to the Round of 16.

In the Round of 16, Vanderheyden fell to Virginia Tech's Ozlem Uslu, who was seeded eighth, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
