HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Football celebrates Homecoming 2024 on Saturday as App State comes to town for the Thundering Herd's Sun Belt Conference opener. The game is a 3:30 p.m. kickoff that will be shown on ESPN+ from Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

This weekend's contest with App State serves as Marshall's annual 'Stripe The Joan' game. Be sure to check HERE for everything you need to know before the game, including what color to wear in what section.
Marshall's contest with App State will be the Herd's first SBC contest of the 2024 season, but it will be the second for the Mountaineers, who fell to South Alabama, 48-14, in their last contest on Sept. 19.
Both teams come into the game at 2-2 overall as the Thundering Herd enters following its 27-20 win last week over Western Michigan.
Marshall will be playing against its third consecutive opponent who did not play in a contest the week prior to facing the Herd. Ohio State and Western Michigan each had a bye coming into the game with Marshall while App State's contest against Liberty last week was canceled due to the impact of Hurricane Helene on the Boone, N.C., area.

ABOUT MARSHALL
Marshall is fresh off a 27-20 win over Western Michigan last week in which the team raced out to a 17-3 halftime lead before getting a late touchdown pass from Stone Earle to Christian Fitzpatrick to break a 20-all tie en route to the win.
It was defense that played big when it mattered most, forcing a Western Michigan turnover in the Herd red zone that helped produce the game-winning score and also getting a fourth-down stop in the red zone with the game on the line to earn the win. Got the Win in the Rain 🌧️

Senior defensive back J.J. Roberts was named SBC Defensive Player of the Week after registering 15 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and forcing a fumble in the win. Defensive lineman Mike Green also had a stellar outing with 11 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss for the Herd.
Running back A.J. Turner continued his hot start to the season as well, rushing for 124 yards to vault into the SBC lead in rushing yards.

ABOUT APP STATE
App State is coached by Charleston, W.Va., native Shawn Clark.
The Mountaineers come into Huntington as the 2024 Preseason SBC favorite to win the Sun Belt Conference's East Division.
Leading the way for App State is quarterback Joey Aguilar, who was selected as the 2024 SBC Offensive Player of the Year. Aguilar is currently 93 of 164 for 1,230 yards and six touchdowns with three interceptions. His favorite target is Kaedin Robinson, who has caught 24 passes for 375 yards.
Defensively, the Mountaineers are led by sophomore D.J. Burks, who is coming off a 14-tackle performance against South Alabama. On the season, Burks has 30 tackles. Defensive lineman Santana Hopper also is a forced with a pair of sacks and forced fumbles on the season.

SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 27th all-time meeting between Marshall and App State with the Mountaineers owning a 16-10 advantage. The teams have met in each of the last four seasons with the home team winning each game. Marshall's last win over the Mountaineers came in an exciting 28-21 win over the Mountaineers on Nov. 12, 2022.
