Women’s Basketball Scores 98 Points In Sunday Win Over Salem

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall women's basketball capped an eventful MU Athletics' weekend with a 98-41 win over Salem Sunday afternoon at the Cam Henderson Center.

The Herd scored its most points this season, and collected 60 rebounds, the most in a game for Marshall since Dec. 29, 2018 when the team had 63 in a contest against Evansville.

"I was really proud of the effort," Head Coach Juli Fulks said. "One of the nice things about December is the systems start playing out, so you can see where all the operations work together."

"The post-players were 7-of-8 in the first half and that has been a point of emphasis for us in practice. We have got to get them involved and we have got to get the ball into the block. Our guards did a good job seeing them and the post players did a good job finishing."

Marshall had two players finish with a double-double including leading-scorer Meredith Maier who finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Additionally, junior Blessing King had 10 points and an astounding 15 rebounds, the most boards by a MU player since Dec. 31, 2022.

"I have been doing some individual workouts with some of my assistant coaches, just trying to get over the hump and be the player I know I can be," King said. "The staff have been helping me so much and trusting in me and it is paying off so I am happy."

The offensive explosion continued with a breakout performance from freshman Kassie Ingram, who scored 14 points, an early career-high for the freshman from Cincinnati.  Madison Kellione added 11 points as well, with four players finishing in double-figures.

The victory also saw the Marshall debut for redshirt-freshman Jayda Allie who connected on two triples.

The Herd will be back on the court in a week on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 1 p.m. on the road against the Florida Gators.
