GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Marshall's women's basketball team couldn't overcome a challenging 2nd quarter in a 82-63 defeat at the SEC's Florida Gators Sunday afternoon.
The Herd (3-5) and Gators (6-4) were tied at 18 after the opening quarter, but Marshall struggled in the second 10 minutes, getting outscored 27-8. MU and UF played to an even second half as well (16-16 3rd, 21-21 4th).
"I thought we had a really good effort today," Head Coach Juli Fulks said. "We tied them for three quarters, it was 18-18 in the 1st, 16-16 in the 3rd and 21-21 in the 4th. So this is multiple times now we're managing to put three really good quarters together against really good teams and we're going to keep working on figuring out that 'fourth' quarter."
Graduate guard Madison Kellione continued her offensive production, leading the way for Marshall with 20 points on a season-best 7-of-12 shooting. Her six made-threes were a Marshall best.
Overall, the Herd had less turnovers with 16 compared to Florida's 17. MU had more offensive boards with 18 to UF's 14.
The Herd will close finals week with a special 11 a.m. Friday morning Education Day tip against Jacksonville from the Cam Henderson Center. For tickets, view HERE.
