Marshall’s Mike Green Named FWAA Second Team All-American

Green becomes sixth Marshall player in history to earn FWAA honors
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall defensive lineman Mike Green was named as a Football Writers Association of America Second Team All-American on Tuesday.
The Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) presented the list in partnership with the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
The 2024 SBC Player of the Year led Marshall to a 10-3 record and the 2024 SBC Championship over Louisiana while putting together one of the most dominant single seasons in Marshall and Sun Belt Conference history.
With a sack in the 2024 SBC Championship against Louisiana, Green broke the Sun Belt Conference's single-season sacks record and tied Marshall's single-season record while leading all FBS players in 2024 with 17.0 sacks.
In addition to sacks, Green led all FBS players in the following categories in 2024: sack yardage (144), tackles for loss (22.5), TFL yardage (155) and tackles by a defensive lineman (84).
Green is the sixth Marshall player in history to earn FWAA All-American status, and it's the second straight year for the Herd to be represented (2023, Jayden Harrison, KR). Others include Randy Moss (1997,) Johnathan Goddard (2004), Vinny Curry (2011) and Tavante Beckett (2020).
The Herd has also seen two FWAA Freshman All-Americans in Rasheen Ali (2021) and Tyler Williams (2012).
The FWAA All-American Team was first selected in 1944, making this the 80th year for the list.
Since 1945, the FWAA All-America Team has been among the five accredited All-American lists that help determine Consensus All-American status. Those include Walter Camp, AFCA, Associated Press, FWAA and The Sporting News.
