GREENSBORO – The Marshall University Swimming and Diving team completed the first two days of the U.S. Open Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina, Wednesday and Thursday with another program record being toppled.
"Our women are competing really well," Herd Swimming and Diving Head Coach Ian Walsh said. "Coming off of our midseason invitational, it's always a challenge, continuing to train through the holidays and preparing for our final exam week."
Marshall kicked off the event on Wednesday with Mia McBride, Paige Banton, Madeline Hart and Kseniia Luniushina finishing the 200 Medley Relay in a time of 1:42.10, the seventh fastest time in program history.
Luniushina competed in the 50 Freestyle on Thursday finishing in a time for 10th with a time of
"Wednesday evening was a great start with an all-time top 10 performance for our 200 Medley Relay," Walsh commented. "Kseniia had a strong morning swim and was just off her lifetime best tonight, placing 10th overall. Both Paige and Audrey time trialed this morning to set themselves up for tonight."
However, the performance of the day on Thursday came from Hart as she set the program record in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:00.25 in a time trial.
"Swim of the day was certainly Madeline's 200 butterfly time trial, finishing with a lifetime best and breaking the oldest school record set in 2004 by our Hall of Famer, Milla Kuurto. I'm really pleased with our approach to each session and looking forward to tomorrow morning as we have seven opportunities to build upon."
