Marshall Tennis Closes Homestand with Victory over Furman

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Tennis team (8-2) extended its winning streak to five with a 5-2 win over the Furman Paladines (1-4) on Sunday afternoon in Barboursville.
"It was great to see us play at that level," Herd tennis head coach John Mercer said about is team's performance. "Furman is probably the favorite to win the Southern Conference again. We knew they were dangerous coming in, but fortunately we played a little bit better."
The Herd battled to take the doubles point. Aisling McGrane and Sophia Hurrion cruised to a 6-2 win on court two. Gabrielle Clairotte and Rieke Gillar then rallied to take their contest 7-5 on court three.
MU then bum-rushed the Paladines in singles. Johanna Strom finished first on court one with a straight sets 6-3, 6-4, win. Doroteja Joksovic and Hurrion quickly followed with straight-sets wins on courts three and four, respectively, to seal the match for the Green and White.
Gillar closed out the contest with a straight sets win 6-0, 7-6, on court six.
