Marshall Softball Rolls to 11-2 Win Sunday

Herd goes 4-1 for the weekend at ECU
GREENVILLE, N.C. — Marshall's softball team used a seven-run 4th to seal an 11-2 win over Fairfield Sunday morning at East Carolina University.
Coach Morgan Zerkle's Herd is now 6-4 through the first 10 games of the 2024 season after a 4-1 weekend.
"I think we grew a lot as a team this weekend, we learned some things about ourselves," Zerkle said. "We cleaned up our defense which was great to see and some new people got some opportunities and did well. It was a good weekend for growth to see where we are at and continue to get better."
The Herd jumped out on Fairfield in the top of 1st with a three-run opposite field home run from Bub Feringa. The junior has now hit a longball in each of her first three seasons with MU.
Feringa's shot followed a two-out RBI hit from Brooklyn Ulrich. The hit capped the redshirt-sophomore's five-RBI weekend, a new career-high for a single weekend for Ulrich.
Pitcher Savannah Rice won her third game of the weekend with a five inning complete game, allowing just four hits while striking out three. Rice worked out of a jam in the 3rd before MU blew the game open with its strong 4th.
Four consecutive bases-loaded singles from Sydney Bickel, Rielly Lucas, Bella Gerlach and Abby Darnley plated five before Feringa drove in the Herd's 11th run of the game.
