HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University junior Grace Kelsheimer registered a historic day on the one-meter boards Monday on the first day of the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships in Princeton, New Jersey.
Â
"Grace performed excellent today!" Herd Diving coach Megan Siford said of Kelsheimer's performance on day one. "It takes a lot of guts and mental toughness to maintain focus over the span of such a long event. However, it takes something else entirely to accomplish that and dive as well as Grace did today in both prelims and finals!"
Â
The native of Westlake, Ohio, finished 15th with a final score of 518.25, both program records for NCAA Diving Zones. Kelsheimer's finish came against 79 competitors as she was just one of 18 to qualify for finals.
Â
The junior's highest scoring dive on the day came in round three of the finals with a 403B ( Inward 1 1/2 Somersault Pike) as she recorded a score of 49.20.
Â
In prelims, Kelsheimer recorded a score of 259.05, tied for 12th, as scores carry over into finals at NCAA Diving Zones
Â
"I'm so proud of her and I'm excited to see how she does tomorrow on three-meter!" Siford concluded.
Â
Kelsheimer isn't done yet in New Jersey as she is set for the three-meter diving portion of the event on Tuesday. Kelsheimer's prelims time is set for 10:30 a.m. with finals set for 5 p.m.
