Marshall Tennis Finishes Weekend With Win Over Georgia State

Gillar clinched the match at number five singles
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Tennis (11-6, 2-1 Sun Belt) completed a perfect weekend with a 4-3 win over the Georgia State Panthers (4-10, 0-3 Sun Belt) Sunday at the Brian David Fox Tennis Center in Huntington.
"It was an interesting match. We were all over the place and they were kind of all over the place as expected for the first day outside." Herd Tennis head coach John Mercer said. "It was good to come out on top. We look forward to playing more outdoor matches."
The Herd pounced on the Panthers in doubles. Sophia Hurrion and Dorteja Joksovic quickly finished at number two doubles 6-2 as Johanna Strom and Emma Vanderheyden followed with a 6-3 win at number one doubles to seal the point.
Gabrielle Clairotte and Rieke Gillar were tied at four all as their contest went unfinished on court three.
Joksovic and Hurrion carried their momentum into singles finishing on courts three and four, respectively, in straight sets to extend the Marshall lead to 3-0.
Then on court five, Gillar won the first set 7-5, but trailed early in the second set. The senior rallied back to capture her match and seal the contest for MU with a 6-4 win in the second set.
