Herd Tennis Opens Weekend with Win at Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. – The Marshall University Tennis (12-6, 3-1 Sun Belt) opened the weekend with a 5-2 win over the Arkansas State Red Wolves (7-7, 1-2 Sun Belt) on Saturday in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
"We played through some tough conditions that we had to battle through today, but got the win," Herd Tennis head coach John Mercer said. "We look to get better tomorrow and look forward to some sunshine and good tennis in Monroe."
The Herd battled it out for the doubles point with Sophia Hurrion and Aisling McGrane finishing first on court two with a 6-4 victory. With doubles knotted at 1-1, Johanna Strom and Emma Vanderheyden captured the doubles point for Marshall in a tiebreak, 7-6, that went down to the wire.
Just like MU's last two matches, Doroteja Joksovic finished first on court three with a straight sets win, dropping just two games. Hurrion followed on court four winning in straight sets. Then Strom clinched match at 4-1 with a straight sets triumph at number singles.
Rieke Gillar closed out the match winning her contest on court five taking a three-set battle to make it 5-2 Herd.
