Herd Tennis Drops Narrow Decision at South Alabama

Hurrion, Joksovic, McGrane each take their singles matches

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Tennis team (15-7, 6-2 Sun Belt) saw its six-match winning streak come to an end in a narrow 4-3 loss to the South Alabama Jaguars (12-4, 5-2 Sun Belt) on Saturday in Mobile, Alabama.
"I thought South Alabama played really well. Unfortunately, we lost a couple points in doubles and couldn't dig ourselves out of the hole," Herd Tennis head coach John Mercer said after the match. But overall, I felt like we fought hard and we should finish strong if we keep that effort."
Sophia Hurrion and Aisling McGrane dug out a 7-5 win on court two in doubles to even the doubles portion 1-1, but the Jaguars picked up the doubles point over The Herd with a victory on court three.
MU was trailing 3-0 when Hurrion got the visitors on the board with a 6-3, 6-3, triumph on court four to put the match at 3-1.
South Alabama clinched the match with a victory on court six.
Doroteja Joksovic took her contest in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, on court three. McGrane closed out the match with a victory on court five after her opponent retired after the second set.
