Marshall sweeps the Golden Eagles
Championship Fund
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Marshall University Tennis team (16-7, 7-2 Sun Belt) closed out the weekend with a 4-0 sweep of the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Sunday in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
"We got a great bounce-back win today. Can't wait to be back home next weekend," Herd Tennis head coach John Mercer said after the win.
The Herd quickly captured the doubles point with a 6-2 victory on court three by duo of Gabrielle Clairotte and Doroteja Joksovic followed by a 6-2 win on court two by Sophia Hurrion and Aisling McGrane.
Marshall carried its momentum into singles with Johanna Strom finishing first with a 6-2, 6-3, triumph on court one. Rieke Gillar made it 3-0 MU by winning 6-4, 6-2, on court five and Emma Vanderheyden closed out the contest with a 6-4, 6-1, victory on court two to complete the sweep.
Hurrion and Andjela Lopicic were leading in their respective singles contests when the match came to a close.
