Banton Set to Compete at 2024 Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials

Senior to compete in 100 and 200 Breaststroke for Olympic qualification

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University Swimming and Diving senior Paige Banton is set to compete at the 2024 Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, from May 13 through May 19.
Banton is scheduled to compete in two events, the 100 Breaststroke on May 14 and in the 200 Breaststroke on May 17 to try and qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris.
"Our coaches and team members are incredibly proud of Paige's journey and her individual pursuit to compete at the highest level," Herd Swimming and Diving head coach Ian Walsh said. "It is an honor to be part of an elite meet like this and the past four years of preparation has allowed her to compete in this type of environment. Paige's greatest asset has been controlling what she can control, especially in high stress environments. She has shown that at the NCAA level and national level here at Marshall."
The native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, had a banner 2023-24 season with The Herd. Banton set the program record in both events this season. She broke the 200 Breaststroke record with a time of 2:12.75 on January 27 in a dual against Toledo and followed that up with a time 1:01.36 in the 100 at the Sun Belt Conference Championships not only setting the program record but breaking the top mark in SBC history in the process.
"Paige had a great experience in 2022 when she competed in the World Cup series up in Toronto and placed in the Top 15 in her respective events," Walsh continued. "That opportunity placed her in an environment where she was able to showcase her talents in a high stress environment. Those moments will serve her well as she prepares to compete in the same venue that will ultimately decide Canada's Swimming Olympic Team for Paris."
Banton, who plans to return to Marshall for a fifth season, earned a 2023-24 First-Team All-SBC nod after winning the 100 and 200 Breaststroke at the conference championships to go with a silver as a member of the 200 Medley Relay and a bronze in the 200 Individual Medley.
