Three Game-Times Announced For 2024 Marshall Football Contests

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Athletics announced three of its game-times for the 2024 Marshall Football season on Thursday afternoon in correlation with ESPN and the Sun Belt Conference.
Marshall opens the season against Stony Brook at 5 p.m. on Aug. 31 at Joan C. Edwards Stadium in a game that will be streamed on ESPN+.
On Sept. 7, Marshall's first nationally-televised contest of 2024 takes place when the Thundering Herd travels to Virginia Tech for a 4:30 p.m. contest at Lane Stadium that will be shown on The CW.
"With game-times being announced for our early fall games, it's time for us to get ready to support The Herd!" said Christian Spears, Marshall's Director of Athletics. "Our 118th college football season is filled with marquee games and we are just 87 days to kickoff. We can't wait to see you at The Joan, so get your tickets and join us!"
It was also announced that the Herd will host a prime-time game on national television on Oct. 17 when Georgia State coming to Huntington for an 8 p.m. game that will be featured on ESPN2.
The contests were announced as part of ESPN's television announcement with its conference affiliates on Thursday that covers Weeks 1-3 and select prime-time games within the 2024 football season.
Per the Sun Belt's agreement with ESPN, other games in the 2024 football season are subject to the 12-day window, meaning those game-times and television considerations will be announced 12 days before the scheduled game unless previously agreed on between the league and the network affiliates.
Each game brings its own intrigue for Marshall fans. The Stony Brook contest offers the first look at the 2024 Thundering Herd as the team opens its season at home in its first-ever meeting with the Sea Wolves.
The matchup with Virginia Tech gives the Herd a chance to earn a Power 5 win for the third consecutive season and its second over the Hokies in as many years. Marshall defeated Va. Tech, 24-17, in Huntington last season.
The contest with Georgia State in mid-October serves as a key SBC East Division battle as the Herd looks for the division title to represent the East in the 2024 SBC Championship in December.
