Devonte Nesby Hired as Track and Field Assistant Coach

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Devonte Nesby has been named an assistant coach for the Marshall track and field program, as announced Monday by Director of T&F Keith Roberts.
"We are excited to have Coach Nesby join the staff!" Roberts said. "He has experience coaching various event groups which will serve as a benefit to our staff. He has a high level of energy and enthusiasm that will undoubtedly permeate through the staff and our team. Everyone I spoke to during the interview process echoed the same sentiments regarding his positive personality, ability to work well with his peers and student-athletes, his work ethic and selfless dedication to people."
Nesby joins the Herd after a successful three-year stint as an assistant for Buena Vista University in Iowa. There, he coached horizontal jumps, hurdles and sprints. Under Nesby's guidance, he oversaw one All-Conference athlete, five conference finalists, and the top two best marks in the 400 and TJ in school history.
He also has head coaching experience from 2018-2022, as the Head T&F Coach for Vigor High School in Alabama, his home state. There he coached two team Region Championships, 10 State Medalists, 25 State Qualifiers, 15 individual region champions, and 30 region medalists.
"I'm thrilled to join Marshall University as an assistant track and field coach, Nesby said. "This is an incredible opportunity to contribute to a program with a strong tradition of excellence. I'm eager to work with such talented athletes and dedicated staff, and I'm excited to help the team reach new heights this season."
As a student-athlete, Nesby attended Alabama A&M University, earning his Sport Management Degree in 2017. He competed in the 400m and Long Jump, and was a two-time Conference Finalist.
