Marshall Softball Selected To Play At 2025 NFCA DI Leadoff Classic

Herd to play five games at Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall softball has been selected to open its season in the 2025 NFCA DI Leadoff Classic, the organization announced Monday.
The invitational takes place Feb. 6-9 from Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla. The field features 17 schools, eight of which made the 2024 NCAA Tournament. For the NFCA's full release and schedule, view HERE.

Head Coach Morgan Zerkle will begin her second season in charge of the Herd with five games across four days, opening with Texas Tech on Thursday, Feb. 6. The Red Raiders will be led by former Louisiana Head Coach Gerry Glasco, and 2024 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year and Stanford transfer NiJaree Canady.
"I'm super excited to open up our season not only in sunny Florida but against possibly one of the top teams in the country with the best arm in the country," Coach Zerkle said. "For Marshall to become a highly successful program, we need to consistently be challenged, and this opening weekend tourney will be a good balance of competition. I've heard many great things about the NFCA Leadoff Classic, and I'm thrilled we get to be a part of it."
Additional opening-weekend contests for the Herd includes 2024 Super Regional host Missouri and SBC opponent Southern Miss (non-conference game) on Friday, Feb. 7, Iowa on Saturday, Feb. 8, and the 2024 MEAC Champion, Morgan State on Sunday, Feb. 9.

Friday, Feb. 7: 7:00 pm vs. Southern Miss - Non-Conference Game

Sunday, Feb. 9: 10:00 am vs. Morgan State
