HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The No. 7 Marshall Men's Soccer team (7-1-1, 2-0-0 SBC) picked up three points in a 2-1 win over the Old Dominion Monarchs (4-4-1, 0-2-0 SBC) Sunday evening at Hoops Family Field.

Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos tallied his fourth goal of the season, third in his last three games, with Marco Silva notching the game-winner on this third goal of the year. Aleksa Janjic moved to 5-0 on the season with the win in goal.

"I thought it was a tough game," Herd Men's Soccer Head Coach Chris Grassie said. "ODU was vastly improved from last year. They were really tough competitors. The game could have gone either way. I'm really proud of our guys."

Neither side was able to find the target for most of the first half. Then the Monarchs were awarded a penalty kick with just over one minute remaining in the opening 45. Karan Mandair stepped up to the spot, but Janjic made the save to keep the contest scoreless at halftime.

Nine minutes into the second half, Aymane Sordo sent a pass down the right wing to Pablo Simon. Simon then sent in the cross and found Rodrigues dos Santos, who found the back of the night for the first goal of the contest in the 55th minute.

ODU equalized in the 75th minute on a goal from Key White, but Janjic didn't waver in goal making a key save at the 78:14 mark to keep the score tied 1-1.

Then in the 85th minute, Marshall lined up for a corner. Taimu Okiyoshi sent the ball in, and Aleksandar Vukovic headed a ball on target, but it was saved by the Monarch goalkeeper. However, Silva was there to tap in the ball for the game-winning goal to keep MU undefeated in SBC play.

The Herd has had seven different student-athletes tally a game-winning goal in the team's seven wins this season.
