HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Men's Basketball team (10-8, 3-2 SBC) ended its four-game homestand with an 81-69 win over the Georgia Southern Eagles (8-9, 1-4 SBC) Saturday evening in the Cam Henderson Center.
"Another great team win," Herd Men's Basketball Head Coach Corny Jackson said after the victory. "Especially without Obinna, who is a major part of our program. We had other guys step up. The beauty of these guys is they didn't flinch. Wyatt stepped up to the challenge, Cade, Nate. All the guys really stepped up to the challenge tonight. I'm proud of each everyone of them."
Leading the way with 21 points, Mikal Dawson made six of his 12 attempts from the field, including 5-for-10 from three-point range. The Huntington, West Virginia, native added four rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks during his fifth 20-point game of the season.
Nate Martin recorded his third double-double of the season with 18 points, on a 6-for-7 shooting night, and 13 rebounds while rejecting a game-high four shots.
Following with 17 points and a game-high seven assists, Dezayne Mingo picked up his seventh contest of at least five assists this season.
The two sides traded leads for the first three minutes, but The Herd would jump on top and not look back while trailing for only 1:17 during the ballgame.
A 10-0 run from the 17:02 mark to 14:13, featuring a pair of Dawson triples, a three from Wyatt Fricks a free throw by Mingo, pushed MU out to a 15-6 advantage as led the rest of the game.

MU entered the break making 51.7 percent (15-for-26) of its shots from the field and 50 percent of its threes (7-for-14).
The second half was all Herd as it saw its lead fall to single digits just four times in the final 20 minutes. The Green and White held an 18-point lead over Georgia Southern two times in the half after Dawson nailed a three at the 16:42 mark, 74-56, and a pair of Cade Gibbs freebies with 5:09 remaining, 76-58.
