NORFOLK, Va. – A shorthanded Marshall's women's basketball team shot a road-best 45 percent from the field, but lost at Old Dominion, 80-75.
Unfortunately for the Herd (5-11, 0-5 SBC), ODU (12-5, 4-1 SBC) shot 12-of-25 from three, a season-best for the Monarchs and highest percentage against MU this year. To add to the adversity, Coach Juli Fulks's Herd was limited with a sickness surrounding the team.
"Sometimes you start feeling like a broken record because you have a team that keeps battling and gets so close and we just can't find a way and adversity keeps seeming to come at us from a lot of different directions," Head Coach Juli Fulks said. "We have the flu going through our team today and we were down multiple people and subbing rotations. This could have been a game they easily folded under with all the things that were going around and people that aren't feeling well and are coming back to kind of feeling well so I was really proud of the effort."
Four players reached double figures for Marshall, with Aislynn Hayes leading the way with 21 points. She has now reached double figures in eight consecutive games.
Meredith Maier added 17, Madison Kellione scored 15, and Blessing King reached 10 points in her first start of the season.

"Blessing has certainly earned [the start]," Fulks said. "We're not feeling very well at that position and I thought she came out strong, we put in some quick hitters yesterday for her to be able to take advantage of some things and she capitalized on it. She has always been a good rebounder obviously. I thought she did a really good job in so many situations today adapting to different circumstances but also being able to push through and get big stops down the stretch. There is always something good that comes out of the hard and if there was anything which came out of the hard today, Blessing took some really big steps forward in doing things we already knew she was capable of doing."
