TROY, Ala. – Marshall women's basketball came out on the wrong end of a 80-69 result Saturday afternoon at Troy.
The Herd (5-9, 0-3 SBC) led by as much as eight at various parts of the first half, but were unable to overcome an 11-point third quarter run by Troy (8-7, 2-1 SBC).
"It's been frustrating and gut-wrenching these first three games as a collective group," Marshall Head Coach Juli Fulks said. "We have held a lead at halftime in each game and haven't been able to put a solid third quarter together. We'll keep focusing on the parts that allow us to be ahead at half and work to find a solution to the second half challenges."
Marshall was outscored 26-12 in the 10 minutes following halftime.
To lead Marshall, senior Aislynn Hayes led a trio of Marshall scorers in double figures. One of her three triples gave MU its largest lead in the 2nd quarter.
Meredith Maier had 15 points and Madison Kellione scored 12 for the Herd.
The Herd will continue its longest road trip of the season, making a Virginia swing next week. Marshall faces JMU in Harrisonburg Thursday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m.
