HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Derek Stout has been named an assistant coach for the Marshall Track & Field program, leading the throwing events, Director Keith Roberts announced Thursday.
"We are excited to have Coach Stout join the staff. He has a wealth of knowledge both as a throws coach as well as a leader with head coaching experience," Director Roberts said. "His skills, knowledge, and experience will help take us to the next level. We are excited to have him on board as we continue to build our program."
Stout joins the Herd after leading Division II Lake Erie College as the Head Coach of Cross Country and Track & Field for the last four seasons, with seven years of experience coaching for LEC. A Top-10 conference thrower for Walsh University himself, Stout oversaw the first thrower in program history to qualify for the NCAA National Meet.
"I'm incredibly honored to join the Marshall University Track and Field program as the new Throws Coach," Stout said. "I want to thank Coach Roberts for the opportunity to be part of such a respected and competitive program. I'm excited to work alongside a dedicated staff and to contribute to the development of the throwers."
As a head coach of the Storm, Stout coached three National Qualifiers, including the 2024-25 NCAA DII Indoor 800m Champion. In his four seasons as head coach, his athletes broke 23 school records and had the highest team GPA on campus every year.
Stout earned his B.A. in Theology & Professional Education from Walsh in 2018. He received his M.S. in Education - with a coaching concentration from Lake Erie in 2021.
