Herd Volleyball Splits Road Weekend at Georgia State

Marshall picked up key road win on Friday

ATLANTA – The Marshall University Volleyball team (12-11, 4-6 SBC) won 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 25-23) on Friday and fell 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-22) on Saturday to split a road week at Georgia State.
Game 1 – Marshall 3, Georgia State 1
Beatrice Ciccarelli anchored the Herd at the net, delivering 12 kills on .647 hitting, five block assists, two aces and a match-high 17.5 points. Logan Henderson powered the offense with 13 kills, while Emma Barnett filled the stat sheet with eight kills, 13 digs and two aces. Bella Thompson directed the attack for 23 assists, adding two kills and nine digs.
Marshall and Georgia State traded points in a set that saw several lead changes in the opening set. The Herd pulled ahead late and sealed a 25-23 win with timely kills and a .357 attack percentage.
Georgia State responded with a 25-22 victory in the second
Marshall regained momentum with a balanced effort in the third, using strong defense and a late push to claim a 25-21 win and a 2-1 match lead.
The match peaked in the fourth with multiple ties down the stretch. Marshall edged out Georgia State 25-23, clinching the match on big attacks and clutch blocking.
The Herd finished with 14 block assists, three players registering at least seven kills and key contributions across the lineup. Marshall attacked at a .237 clip in the decisive fourth set.
Game 2 – Georgia State 3, Marshall 0
Audrey Geer paced the Herd with six kills, five digs and three blocks. Beatrice Ciccarelli contributed fve kills at a .250 clip and led all players with five blocks. Emma Barnett added four kills and three digs.
In the first set, Georgia State used an 8-2 run to break a 10-10 tie and finished out a 25-16 win.
The Herd played even in the opening stages of the second, drawing level at 14-14. A 6-0 Georgia State surge, highlighted by a solo block and an ace, put the Panthers up as they took the set 25-16.
Marshall opened strong in the third with a 6-1 run out of the gate. Georgia State regrouped after a timeout, retaking the lead midway and holding off a late Herd push to close the match 25-22.
